Zelda vs. Ginevra

Two loves of a young Scott Fitzgerald, Zelda Sayre and Ginevra King.  He works these woman into many of his works, they are the prototypes of the "Fitzgerald Girl".  What I want to know is which one of them do you most relate to?  Or to put it a different way, which team are you on?  Team Zelda or Team Ginevra?

Bonus points for telling me why.

  1. I don't know that I relate, especially, to either of them, but I'd give Zelda more points for actually sticking with SF. Ginevra dumped him and broke his heart(but, then, there's an argument for Ginevra given the slow torture SF and Zelda put each other through...).

I think it's wild how much alike Zelda and Ginevra look, and how much alike they seem to have been in many ways. Zelda provided SF with tons of actual words, though, through her diaries, of which he took possession.

Interesting question, though. So, Laurie, which team are you on?

  2. Two caveats before my answer:

    (1) First, both of them underwhelmed me when I first Googled what they looked like; maybe it's the aesthetics of the times, but I thought it took more of a "muse" to inspire such great writing.

    (2) Out of all the Fitzgerald girls, Rosemary Hoyt captured my imagination most vividly. She was the one female protagonist who wasn't a shallow bitch. FSF wrote in his journal during his youth that he wants a woman to love him through total and absolute admiration. Can't believe it to took until his 4th novel to actually pen such a character. (I guess it means he didn't meet such women in real life, making it so so sad.) So from a literary standpoint, I'd prefer Team Lois Moran.

That being said, I'll go with Team Ginevra, just because she wasn't literally crazy. And it seems like Ginevra actually did something with her life, like helping the American Cancer Society, rather than pursue childhood dallies like bally out of vanity...

Please remember that I am not a Fitzgerald expert. My posts are my point of view at a specific moment in time, I may get things wrong. Kind words and discussions are always welcomed. If I have made a mistake, politely let me know. I would like to keep Fitzgerald musings a positive experience. Comment Away.....
